Amy Schneider loses to Rhone Talsma
Amy Schneider ends her 40-game winning streak on Jeopardy! today, ending her record streak. The engineering manager from Oakland, California, won 39 of the past 40 games. Her record is the second longest in the show’s history, behind only Ken Jennings’s streak of 74 games in 2004. In addition to the record-breaking win, Amy earned $1,382,800 from her matches. Only three other contestants have won more money since the show started in 2001.
Despite her record-setting winning streak, the 42-year-old engineering manager from Oakland has lost the game to a woman who is not her biological mother. Rhone Talsma, a Chicago librarian, bucked the trend by going for the Daily Double in her first round. Amy Schneider had been leading the competition for the entire season but failed to come up with an answer against her $8,000 bet. Although she came within a few dollars of the winner, she finished with $19,600.
Mattea Roach is highest scorer in all three rounds
Canadian contestant Mattea Roach is the only player to make it through all three rounds of the final Jeopardy episode of April 20. Two other players left with negative cash balances. Mattea’s high score tied Julia Collins for fifth place. Despite winning the finals, she didn’t risk her entire money to win it, bringing her score to $15,600.
The game show’s host, Alex Lemberg, has received criticism for his recent article on Roach. The “Jeopardy!” host apologized for the article and said that Roach’s comments were inaccurate. In reality, NBC News’ article merely outlined Roach’s “unexpected run of super champs.”
Daily Double in “-ola”
The Final Jeopardy Daily Double in the “-ola” category was won by a contestant named Lauryl Tucker. She found the Daily Double under a clue that asked for words that come from the human body. However, she failed to answer the question correctly, and ended up in last place. She won $4,800, while Pete took home $8,600. This week, two of the three players from the “-ola” category have won a game.
